Console Social 20/10/10

The first console social of the year is happening next week on Wednesday. It starts at 7pm in LIB1 and will end at midnight. The equipment thread for the social is now up and running.

If you are planning to come just post a message on that forum thread to let us know that you are, what you could bring and if you need any help getting your things to the room.

GAG NPC (Game Maker Pong Challenge)

For those of you that were at the meeting/talk today you will know that we are holding an "in-house" competition this week. We want you to make us a game of pong with a twist between now and the next meeting. The games have to be done in Game Maker (downloadable from yoyogames for free).

You can contact us on our IRC channel or the forums if you need help or ask us questions during the workshop on Wednesday if you get stuck. There are also a bunch of tutorials on the yoyogames website.

During the meeting next week we will have a play of your games together. There will be edible prizes for everyone that makes a game and a larger prize for the voted winner. The more imaginative you are the better.

To get your games in for the competition you can bring your own laptop or zip up the file and either send it to exec@warwickgamedesign.co.uk or keep it on a USB memory stick.

Klik of the Month Klub 16/10/10

This Saturday there is also an informal external competition happening on the Glorious Trainwrecks website; their monthly Klik of the Month Klub.

The idea is that you spend only two hours (at some point) on Saturday making a game to a theme. For that reason you pretty much have to use some kind of auto-making game software, such as Game Maker or their own Klik n' Play.

It's a really good way of practising, not only your game making skills, but your planning as well. You'll soon realise that only the simplest of games can be made during this time. It also really good fun to try and the rules are really flexible as well.
