48 Hour Competition Rules
  • Each competition is based on a theme, and the judges will award points based on use of and adherence to this theme.
  • Teams must consist of three or fewer contributing members.
  • Your game entry and everything in it (art, 3D models, sounds, music etc.) must be made within the 48 hour period. You cannot use any assets that were created before this time.
  • You must not begin coding the game before the competition starts, however you may copy and paste code snippets from publicly available documentation (MSDN, NeHe etc.) Indicate in your README where you have included significant code from an external source.
  • Game maker tools are allowed, we currently recommend GameMaker for people with no programming experience.
  • You may use whatever programming language you like, so long as you can produce a game which conforms to the rules below. For people new to programming we recommend XNA
  • Games must be in the form of an executable file. Note that this includes executable .jar files and the use of emulators, so long as whatever ROM format you use is a single file to be opened by the emulator. This does not include modifications to existing games.
  • If an emulator is required, it must be included in the game submission, subject to the terms and conditions surrounding the emulator's distribution.
  • Games must be submitted in a compressed .zip or .rar format. In the case of XNA, the .ccgame package format may be used. Please don't use installers.
  • Make it easy for the judges (and everyone else) to play your game!
  • Games must be accompanied by a README file containing:
    • Date and theme of the competition
    • Competition sponsors
    • Name of the game
    • Names of the team members
    • Object of the game
    • Controls
    • Language/tool used to create the game
  • Games must display the provided logos of the competition sponsors. These should be either in a brief but unskippable splash screen at the beginning of the game, or on the title screen.
  • Games must be submitted before the end of the 48 hours, make sure you leave enough time to test and package your game!
  • Any game which violates the above rules will be disqualified.
  • A game may also be disqualified on grounds of bad taste or unsuitable content by decision of the exec or the judges.
  • The exec's decision is final. If you have any questions or are unsure about a particular matter, talk to an exec member or email us
